Sox end season... ...and clinch Vintage Championship Playoff spot... The Red Sox played their last regular season game last night in an early tilt with the 8th place Cubs over at Nelson Park... The pitching was spectacular for the Sox who carried a perfect game into the 5th inning on the strength of Sox pitchers Joe Davis, Mark Caron and newcomer Ian McIntosh... In the end the Sox hurlers threw a 1 hitter and beat up on the Cubbies by a 9 - 1 score... The Sox scored early and often taking a 9 - 0 lead into the 5th inning... New Red Sox McIntosh was also impressive at the plate, missing a home run by mere feet ending up with a standup double... Jason McKenna ended his season on a high note with a 3 for 4 performance... With the win, the Sox finished the season at 13 wins - 5 losses - 2 ties and guaranteed themselves a spot in the Vintage Playoffs... Their seeding slot was determined later in the evening when the 4th place Hobos took on the 1st place Cardinals and in what a well played and pitched game as the Cards bested the Hobos 3 - 2... The Hobo loss guaranteed the Sox the 3rd place seed while the Hobos and Yankees will now battle for the 4th and final Vintage Playoff spot over the next 2 weeks... The Sox will now rest all wounds and ailments and get ready for a 1st round playoff battle with either the Cardinals or Mud Hens... The Sox will be at the yard checking out key games between the Hobos / Yankees and the Cardinals / Mud Hens to see what future lies ahead for the boys from adopted Beantown so to speak... This past Saturday, BVB held it 2nd Annual golf Tournament over at Indian Wells Golf Club and the event was a tremendous success... 8 Red Sox players took part in the festivities including Adam Smith, Dave Maunder, Gord Rose, HJ Ustler, Jason McKenna, Joe Davis, Lee Mackey and Mark Caron... The Red Sox boys enjoyed a afternoon filled with fun, laughs and much more importantly, a great day on the golf course...
